This single, which is Jay Kay's favourite from the Travelling Without Moving album was released in the UK on 28 April 1997. This single is the first release to feature the web address of www.jamiroquai.co.uk after the closure of J's Joint in February 1997.
In March 2007 Alright was reissued as part five of five 12" remix releases - including a new remix of the track by Fred Falke ∓ Alan Braxe.
Suprisingly, although the UK releases have the www.jamiroquai.co.uk address listed, this release has the address of J's Joint printed instead.
This single has the same tracks as the regular UK (disc two) release but is packaged in plastic jewel case.
In its first week after release, it entered the UK single charts at number 6, and as James Masterton wrote on the UK Singles Chart Page for 3 May 1997:
"Funkier and funkier with every turn, Jay Kay releases his first single since the Christmas smash of Cosmic Girl and steps even further back into the golden age of 70s disco. Unstoppable really and never less than brilliant, this is now his third Top 10 hit in a row."
In the offical year end singles chart for 1997, Alright was placed at number 154.
The European release of Alright (printed in Austria) has the same tracks and catalogue number as this CD except for the cover, which has the same colours as the disc one release and is distributed in a plastic case, compared with the cardboard sleeve in which the UK versions are distributed.
On 17 February 1997, whilst Alright was doing the rounds as a white label, Record Mirror said the following in their dance music section:
"Jamiroquai's R&B-inflected style would surely have won them several Urban Chart toppers in the past few years, had it existed, but they've recently got wise to the rewards to be had from including house mixes on their singles too, allowing the likes of David Morales and Todd Terry to give their output a more urgent dancebeat. Such is the case with their latest single, Alright, which debuted last week at 35 on the strength of Jamiroquai's own excellent mixes and now soars to number one after getting the Todd Terry terpsichorean treatment. Alright is their second number one club hit in a row - Cosmic Girl hit the top spot for a fortnight last November."
This CD has the same cover as the UK promo but comes in a jewel case.
This promo containing two of the Todd Terry mixes of Alright is an early pre-release from the recording studio - Whitfield Street Recording Studios in West London. Prior to the single being released, these promos are circulated amongst both the band and the record company. This promo is recorded on a 74 minute CD Recordable disc and has a white sticker on it with the name of the studio and the words "Jamiroquai - Alright - (Tee's Mixes)"
This CD contains two versions of Alright mixed by Dave Navarro, Chad Smith, and Dave Schiffman. For those in the know, Dave Navarro and Chad Smith are guitarist and drummer from the "Red Hot Chili Peppers" respectively. Dave Schiffman is a remix/producer/studio engineer who works with many different artists. Unsurprisingly with these guys at the controls, these are rock mixes of the single. The mixes were first publicly heard on Australian radio stations during early August 1997.
The official US release has the same tracks as on the European release. Shortly after the release of the single, the band performed the track live on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on US television on 27 September.
This promo is more like the official US release of Alright which came out on 23 September except that this one contains one of the "Red Hot Chili Pepper" mixes like on the 'D&C' promo release. Interestingly, the cover of this CD is of the same style as the Virtual Insanity single and not of Alright.
The Australian release of this single is a five track version containing a combination of both UK releases. You may notice that the catalogue number is the same as the UK CD1 disc. The packaging for this (and the updated release below) is a carboard sleeve case.
This is an updated version of the Australian release of this single which now contains the Red Hot Chili Pepper remixes of the track which appeared first on Australian radio during mid 1997. The catalogue number is the same as the earlier five track Australian release of this single, which just happens to be the same catalogue number as the four track UK CD1 disc!
This CDR promo appeared in early 2007 prior to the 26 March official 12" release of Alright. Containing new remixes by Fred Falke & Alan Braxe, it also contains the original Todd Terry remix from 1997.
Remixed by Todd Terry with very DJ-friendly and bonus remixes.
This release has a strange looking pattern on the vinyl iteself.
This record plays at 33 and not 45 RPM.
"JK" and not "Jamiroquai". Pressed on vinyl: JA 001 A/2 on side A & JA 001B/2 on side B
As this is dated 1996 and the single didn't get released in the UK until April 1997 this is a very early promo of the single. This could just be be a mistake.
This has a rectangle sticker on cover and has the buffalo man 3D perspective logo + 3D Jamiroquai. Also on sticker: "Alright - The brilliant mixes from Todd Terry and DJ D. Zire".
This is a release of this single which is used in jukeboxes. Sides A and B are the same.
This is the fifth and final release of Jamiroquai re-issues, the first of which was Space Cowboy in May 2006. After promoting the High Times greatest hits album and Runaway singles toward the end of 2006, the release of this was delayed until early 2007.
In addition to this 12" vinyl release, UK digital download stores (e.g., iTunes, Napster) released these mixes, the Fred Falke & Alan Braxe Dub, Todd Terry's Digital Club and Todd Terry's In House Dub.
